Tallinn Music Week’s sister festival Tartu Music Week took place at the Tartu New Theatre and in an anti-jamboree city oasis New Courtyard on August 22-23.

For the third year in a row, the festival visitors could enjoy cosy outside performances as well as eventful club nights packed with quality acts from Estonia and countries nearby. Valuable tips on tour management, pan-Baltic career opportunities and polishing the songwriting skills were shared between music industry insiders and go-getters during the music seminar and special mentoring sessions.  Additional festivities included Biit Me pop-up record shop, music quiz for wiseacres and ping-pong tournament.

Festival’s guest acts were internationally acclaimed Kongolesian-Finnish hip-hop group Gracias, Lithuanian postrockers Without Letters and Latvia’s bright young upstarts Carnival Youth.

Estonian acts were represented by internationally acclaimed underground dance music kings Ajukaja & Andrevski, cinematic bass duo Faun Facket, daring artpoppers Badass Yuki, hiphop philosophers DVPH and Tartu’s very own ambassodor of new electronic music, Sander Reinus. DJ sets were divided by residents of popular club-series Tallinn Jäck City and eclectic house aficionados Parmani People.

Metsatöll to tour North America this autumn

Estonian folk metal band Metsatöll will return to North America this fall in support of their album „Karjajuht“. Metsatöll and Faroese metal band TYR will accompany German new wave folk metal heavyweights Eluveitie on the tour that is set to kick off on September 9th in Baltimore, MD and wrap up in New York, NY on October 22nd at the famed Irving Plaza.

Having formed in 1999, Metsatöll have given more than 490 performances and have sold more than 100 000 records. Throughout their career the band have honed their uniquely Estonian “otherness” into an unmistakable mosaic of sounds, a tradition they are constantly expanding and improving.

Metsatöll's album “Karjajuht” (“Pack Leader”, Spinefarm/Universal) which came out on March 7 2014 in Estonia, was welcomed beyond expectations – 5000 copies of the usual CD, limited CD and vinyl were sold within the first few months, making this the most successful Estonian album of Universal Music.
